Applications
- Adhesives: Hollow Glass Beads reduce weight and improve sound insulation. They minimise shrinkage, improve thermal and electrical insulation and help to reduce costs.
- Coatings: SiLibeads® AIR increase the filling level at low viscosity, improve flow properties, gloss and processability of coatings. They also increase the hardness and abrasion resistance of the coating and reduce UV degradation.
- Injection moulding/extrusion: In injection moulding and extrusion, Hollow Glass Beads improve the level of detail and reduce production costs. They increase rigidity and reduce warping of end products.
- Fillers: Use in fillers enables weight reduction and cost savings, improves sound insulation and reduces shrinkage. They also offer improved thermal and electrical insulation.
- Sealants: Hollow Glass Beads reduce the weight and cost of sealants, improve sound insulation and reduce shrinkage. They contribute to improving thermal and electrical insulation.
- Filler in thermoplastics and thermosets: As a filler to modify the physical properties of thermoplastics and thermosets.
- Automotive applications: In PVC-based plastisols for various automotive applications.
- Composite materials: As a filler to reduce weight in composite materials such as lightweight concrete or cement.
- Emulsion explosives: As a physically acting sensitiser in emulsion explosives.
- Heat-insulating coatings: As a thermal insulator in heat-insulating coatings, also for modifying the physical properties of these coatings.
- Decorative wall paints: As an effect material for decorative effects in wall paints.
- Plastic mouldings: For surface modification in plastic mouldings.
Quality characteristics
- Density: Available in the range of ρ = 0.15 – 0.70 g/cm³.
- Compressive strength: High relative compressive strengths of βD = 2 – 124 MPa.
- Integrity: High proportion of undamaged beads (typically) RF ≥ 95 %.
- Colour: Light white colour of the powder, colourless individual beads.
- Specifications: Suitable for contact with food, complies with toy standards, suitable for use in cosmetics.
- Chemical resistance: High chemical resistance of borosilicate glass.
