It took five years of intensive research to develop plastic-free bio glitter. And with SiLiglam PURE BIO SPARKLE, we have succeeded in producing the world’s first 100% plastic-free *, vegan glitter that is biodegradable in water.
SiLiglam PURE BIO SPARKLE C01 and SiLiglam PURE BIO OPAQUE are not microplastics according to ECHA (Microplastic Draft Amendment to the Annex XVII, Draft restriction) of 30 August 2022.
Our programme includes three different product lines: SiLiglam PURE NATURE, SiLiglam PURE BIO SPARKLE and SiLiglam PURE BIO OPAQUE.
The Mission
The world is drowning in plastic waste. What could be more obvious than avoiding unnecessary plastic?
- Between the years 1950 and 2015, 8.3 billion tons of plastic were produced worldwide.
- In 2018, Germans generated around 37 kilograms of plastic packaging waste per capita.
- The impact of the ever-increasing plastic production on the environment is well known and unmistakable. What remains unclear are the health consequences for humans.
What is Bioglitter?
Bioglitter is proof that sustainability and responsible use of resources can be innovative – and downright glamorous. Our products make skin glow, but not waters, animals and plants. All silver SiLi- Bio glitters are made from renewable raw materials, are completely plastic-free, biodegradable and vegan. SiLiglam PURE NATURE is based on cellulose acetate, SiLiglam PURE BIO SPARKLE and SiLiglam PURE BIO OPAQUE on cellulose, a sugar compound. Bioglitter is contemporary cosmetics – without a guilty conscience.
What distinguishes Bioglitter from classic polyester glitter?
Many traditional cosmetics contain microplastics as well as animal products – and they are tested on animals in the laboratory. At SiLi, we deliberately wanted to counterbalance this and market a glitter that does not involve animal testing or animal products – and is biodegradable. After five years of intensive research, we succeeded: With our Bioglitter, we can now offer a truly new, vegan, innovative and sustainable product.
Has the environmental compatibility of Bioglitter been proven by independent tests/test seals?
Yes. SiLiglam PURE NATURE meets DIN EN 13432 and is suitable for home composting. SiLiglam PURE BIO SPARKLE and SiLiglam PURE BIO OPAQUE meet the two aforementioned requirements and are 80% degraded in water within 28 days according to DIN 14851and are Certified OK Biodegradable WATER by TÜV Austria. On the other hand, we have deliberately refrained from buying one of the many supposed “quality seals” for expensive money. We consider this type of marketing to be unfair, especially since many of these seals lack meaningfulness, reliability and independence. We prefer to invest in our own research for more sustainability.
What contribution does plastic-free glitter make to environmental protection?
Since Bioglitter is based on renewable raw materials, its carbon footprint is significantly better than that of conventional glitter. In addition, the production of Bioglitter conserves resources because it uses significantly fewer fossil raw materials. Last but not least, Bioglitter is biodegradable and therefore does not harm water bodies or animals and plants worthy of protection.
